DJs on the Down Low

Viva Vinyl

Viva Vinyl

Whether it’s late night at the Orange Court or regular Red Marquee revelry, Fujirock has you covered for DJs. Headliners like Rusko, Z-Trip, Ken Ishii and Riva Star will deliver the goods like they always do, but dig a little deeper into the lineup and you’ll find even more choice selectors.

This year has quite a handful of DJs plucked from bands in the lineup: Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip and James Murphy from LCD Sound System play back-to-back sets at the Red Marquee Sunday night. Both should be stellar, but Murphy’s will be a must-see. Check out his label’s mix series for a primer.

Now dig even deeper and we arrive at the Palace of Wonder, where some of the best spinning takes place every year…

REVIEW: Rusko’s New Video

Rusko’s music video for “Hold On” (featuring Amber Coffman) just came out on June 23 in support of his new album O.M.G… Strange for a music video, this is basically a documentary about Rusko’s life on tour, in which: he takes trains, taxis and passes in front of impressive European architecture; he goes to nightclubs, rocks the party, makes the crowd bounce, unplugs his equipment, then suddenly he’s in front of a whole new crowd and rocking the party some more; at the same time, he’s also sort of doing a marketing job for his Wake the Fuck Up t-shirts and making a fashion statement out of a bed-head mohawk hairdo; Rusko’s crowd meanwhile is behind barricades, insanely happy, and in some cases wearing panda bear costumes; and all of this sort of repeats for a while, and then Rusko walks out in the street and some smiling fans wave to him and the video ends. Diplo Looks Back

Diplo prepares for intvu with Taipei's ICRT

Diplo prepares for intvu with Taipei's ICRT

We were hanging out with Diplo yesterday, taking a trip to Taipei County for some late-afternoon cliff diving. As was expected, this international DJ/producer  “kept it going higher” climbing well beyond where even locals dare to go, clutching vines and moss covered rocks to a height of 20 meters. He even did a back-flip from one jump off spot, coming perilously close to the rocks below which elicited a “not-cool” remark from his tour manager.

After returning to the city, we played a game of lazer tag, both the free-for-all and team play round won handily  Major Lazer MC, Skerrit Bwoy.  Later, it was off to the local radio station, ICRT, to promote Wednesday’s show which gave us some time to  reminisce about last year’s Fuji performance. Rusko: Listen to his new shit streaming

The electro party is gonna be pumping hard at FRF2010, and Rusko will be smack dab in the middle of it. His new album, O.M.G. is being released right about the time of this post (May 4 on the US east coast), and you can hear the entire album streaming here!!!!

The album features ATL rapper Gucci Mane, the house vocals from Amber Coffman and a few more trix, so maybe call it a mix of upschool crunk and ghetto house with a massive electro twist. See ya’ll in the Red Marquee, yo!
