Horse Meat Disco tearing it up
Usually Sundays here at the Red comprise of two types: The hardcore, and the stragglers. The stragglers pop in from time to time to see what’s going on as they float between the bars of the Oasis area and the Palace complex. The hardcore are in the thick of it.
That was my plan tonight. Float between the two. I had it all planned. Ozomatli at the Palace. Horse Meat Disco at Red. Back to Willie Martinez at the Palace. Then back to red for Rasmus Faber. Plenty of space and totally doable if experience has taught me anything. But then it started to piss down during Ozomatli, and everything went pear shaped.
So I get to HMD and it’s standing room only. Except for those sitting. But thanks to whoever left two chairs at the back empty just for me and Jeff. Sorry Shawn! The wet has driven everyone who would usually be outside inside. But you know what? Good times! This is by a long way the maddest party, a mad disco inferno. The heat is rising. Rising off the rain jackets. The rain comes on the open sides, but doesn’t dampen the beat.
We start with classic disco. Human League want to know if you want them, baby? Donna Summer feels love. Move down the front and it’s a different story. Wheat and chaff. Sorted. We have space. We have groovers. We have revelers. We have eye candy dancing on stage. We have Talking Heads! Fast forward a little further, and Derek May aka Rhythim Is Rhythim give us the Strings of Life. Anyone who can mix this eclectic lot into a coherent and danceable set has my vote
I predicted that this would be the partiers party. And it is. Like I said earlier. Wheat up front. Chaff down back. Here are a couple guys know how to have fun. But all too soon, no more. We make way for someone who couldn’t possibly be as much fun… Now, that was!

Ah yeah
