EGO-WRAPPIN' WILL PLAY PENTAPORT'S MAIN STAGE BEFORE HEADLINING ORANGE COURT

A handful of Fuji Rock ’10 acts will be pulling double duty and performing at South Korea’s Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival or Jisan Valley Rock Festival too. Pentaport takes place from July 23 to July 25 and Jisan will run at the same time as FRF.

Pentaport has been sharing artists with FRF since its 2006 inception and used to be held on the same weekend as FRF. Last year was a wee bit o’ a clusterfuck (to put it mildly) as the promotion companies responsible for organizing the event had a falling out. This resulted in the creation of the Jisan Valley Rock Festival and its subsequent scheduling on the exact same dates as Pentaport. Two competing music festivals held just outside of Seoul on the same weekend = headaches for all. You can read more about last year’s situation here if you’re interested.

Thankfully this year the two fests, which are the country’s largest multi-day summer concerts, are operating on different weekends. Ian Brown, LCD Soundsystem, and Ego-Wrappin’ will appear at Pentaport before heading to Naeba.  Seoul’s Crying Nut will appear to.  They played at FRF’ ‘09 in the Red Marquee.

Jisan’s bringing Massive Attack, Belle and Sebastian, Vampire Weekend, Martina Topley-Bird, Diane Birch, Mutemath, Muse, Kula Shaker, Third Eye Blind, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Toe. Jisan’s also got the Japanese band Friction who (like Crying Nut) performed at FRF ’09 in the Red Marquee.

In an effort to slightly lighten my “not-to-be-missed” list for FRF, I plan to make my first visit to Pentaport on Saturday and Sunday to catch LCD Soundsystem and Ego-Wrappin’. I may stick around for Ian Brown too. I’ll try to share my thoughts about the gigs before heading to Japan next week.

Smashing Mag’s got live reports from Pentaport 2008 here and here.

They’ve also got live pics of Muse’s South Korea concert earlier this year here.
