LITE @ FRF '07

LITE @ FRF '07

As previously mentioned, the opening day of FRF ‘10 will offer up a tasty instrumental set of jazzy math-rock from  Toe.  Those in need of a second serving of excellent, wordless local rock need only wait until Saturday for Lite’s Red Marquee performance.

Lite previously appeared on the Rookie A Go-Go stage in 2007 and, like The Bawdies, have been invited back to wow a bigger audience this year.

Formed in 2003, the Tokyo post-rock quartet toured throughout Japan, Europe, and the United States.  Their American tour this past March saw them opening eight gigs for Mike Watt + The Missingmen.

Lite have issued two well-received full-lengths, 2006’s “Filmlets” and 2008’s “Phantasia.”  On July 7 they’ll release their new “Illuminate” five-track EP.  “Illuminate” was recorded in Chicago by John McEntire from Tortoise and The Sea and Cake.  McEntire also produced the latest Broken Social Scene disc, so Lite and BSS will have something in common to chat about if they happen to cross paths in Naeba.

Lite are embarking on an Asian tour this week that will include stops in Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan.  Hopefully our Taiwan-based staff can check out the band’s gig and fill us in on what to expect on July 31.

Lite will be playing a gig at Tokyo live house Eggman on July 10.  They will also do a free in-store performance at Tower Records in Shibuya on July 29 prior to heading to Fuji Rock.  You can read about other bands doing extra shows before or after Fuji Rock here.

Here’s Lite’s new music video for the very cool “Image Game” from “Illuminate”:
