Diplo prepares for intvu with Taipei's ICRT

We were hanging out with Diplo yesterday, taking a trip to Taipei County for some late-afternoon cliff diving. As was expected, this international DJ/producer  “kept it going higher” climbing well beyond where even locals dare to go, clutching vines and moss covered rocks to a height of 20 meters. He even did a back-flip from one jump off spot, coming perilously close to the rocks below which elicited a “not-cool” remark from his tour manager.

After returning to the city, we played a game of lazer tag, both the free-for-all and team play round won handily  Major Lazer MC, Skerrit Bwoy.  Later, it was off to the local radio station, ICRT, to promote Wednesday’s show which gave us some time to  reminisce about last year’s Fuji performance.

Some of his memories include a slightly disappointing “jammy” set from Gang Gang Dance, a heavy downpour and hastily arranged dancers for Major Lazer, and a slightly worn out audience for his late-night Red Marquee set.

Diplo has wide ranging musical tastes and he’s rarely more than an arm’s length away from his Macbook pro, meaning he frequently fidgets through playlists and an enormous selection of music. While waiting to do a local radio station interviewed he clicked on the song “Knotty Pine” by Dirty Projectors who perform on the Orange Court stage this year, saying the band is equally incredible live.

He is similarly high on LCD Soundsystem, and Riva Starr, the latter for its upbeat tempo which is proving to be the rage at clubs across the world right now. He also likes Yeasayer, even playing a track on his Macbook but had a run-in with an overly eager band member a few months ago.

And of course, he was high on Mad Decent label mate, Rusko, who will play the late-night set at the Red Marquee, and no longer needs any more promotion as he is been burning up clubs around the world and was already featured right here on this website.
