Broken Social Scene 2006
It’s been a few years since Broken Social Scene has played at Fuji Rock Festival (they were last here in 2006). It’s nice to have some solid representation from the The Great White North and so early in the lineup announcements.
Not only that, but their new album, Forgiveness Rock Record, comes out this Monday (May 4) on Arts & Crafts records. Think of it as another Golden Week gift (whether you’re inside of Japan or not). It might be worth your while to order it via the A&C link above as all pre-orders also receive a copy of Lo-Fi For The Dividing Nights, a collection of ambient sounds recorded by BSS during the recording of Forgiveness Rock Record in Chicago:
During downtime band members would head into Soma’s second smaller studio to test out new ideas and overdubs while John McEntire worked in the main room. Here they created lovely little soundscapes, one of which ended up being the closing song on Forgiveness Rock Record, ‘Me & My Hand’, and the rest became the beginnings of Lo-Fi For The Dividing Nights.
They also chuck in a one year membership in the BSS fan club, a t-shirt, and a poster. Not a bad deal, eh?
The Canadian rock collective is one of Fujirockers’ collective faves. Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning and company have stolen the show on numerous occasions at Fuji Rock Festival, and I’m pretty sure if you are attending you’ll be able to find most of the slackers who bring this blog to you hanging around with beers and bad staff t-shirts by the sound booth at whatever stage they’re playing (I’m figuring the White stage).
Members of the outfit have appeared at various Fuji Rock Fests, like Feist in 2007, but it seems like a long four years to see the band that received an unheard of encore on the White stage in 2006.
This is shaping up to be a banner year for Canadians: a successful Olympics in Vancouver, Olympic Gold for both the men’s and women’s hockey teams, plus Broken Social Scene puts out a new album and plays at Fuji Rock Festival.
What’s next? The Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup final and Sloan added to the bill?

Ha ha…typo or slip of the mouse. Corrected. Thanks Shawn.
“Kevin Canning and company” … have BSS managed to create some kind of hybrid of band founders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning to cut down on the collective’s traveling and rider costs?
