Best spot?
Get down to the river, stick your feet in the water. This ain’t Summer Sonic and you ain’t in a convention center — you came all the way out to Naeba to get dirty, so a couple times a day, stir in with the other primates down by the water side. Either side of the bridge to the White Stage will do. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again if you want me to, feet in the water = extra 10 kilometers.
Bands? Let’s go by day. Friday: Paul Weller. Besides the chops and the gravitas, Weller has got the back library that means you’ll never get bored. He can, and hopefully will, pick from The Jam, The Style Council (what’s with THAT video?) and his latest release, ”22 Dreams”.
Saturday: Bad Brains. Dr. Know’s shredding guitar was the one secret that DC barely revealed. If they still got the Quickness, then the inexplicable change-ups and onslaught of I Against I could rip a hole in the night and blow your mind. There’s got to be some reggae from HR to temper the frenzy as well.
Sunday: Street Sweeper Social Club. Despite amazing credentials, this is a pure pop confection. With Tom Morello, you expect political rage, but few can match Zach de la Rocha’s anger, even The Coup’s activist rapper Boots Riley. But against the backdrop of Morello’s well-toned scale practice, Riley spins highly entertaining taunts, and on a Sunday afternoon on the Green Stage, you can expect a seriously enthusiastic crowd. Should be fun, see you there.
